Groundwater prospecting in one of the recreation centers at lake Uvilda.

The Customer specified two sites for the geophysical surveys. Site No. 1 was about 1764 м2 , site No. 2 – 1080 м2.

At each site we could find a series of prospective zones with tectonic disturbances.  

As the result of the activities, there were located 2 points (One for each site. Distance between wells - 70 meters) for drilling water wells.

Results of drilling:

Testing for underground waters inflow was finished at the first site near which the best (more fractured zone) point for drilling was located. Flow rate was about  1.5 m3/h. Pumping rate was 24 m3/h, water in the well finished in 5 minutes, we had to wait during 3 hours so that the pump could work for 5 minutes.  Thus, the forecast for high-rate well was not justified.

Testing for underground waters inflow was finished for the second site. After putting a 24 m3/h and pump into a common well and washing for 5 days, the well rate was about 10 m3/h. If the well had been larger in diameter, the rate would have been bigger. At this stage, the space between the pump sides and the rock was too little.

For comparison: about 5 years ago, the authorities drilled 5 wells on the territory of the recreation center and only one of them had a good inflow (no accurate data are available), the rest were dry (though two of them are located near the faults). It means that not every fault has a good fractured reservoir where the water may be collected and pumped.

In some exclusive cases there may be a reservoir without a good inflow. To minimize the probability of such event, electric prospecting by means of transient electromagnetic method is performed where it is possible (no industrial noise, no iron structures, electric power lines and etc.). There was no such possibility on this site!!!
