Water survey in Zlatoust

According to results of geophysical works, the first of three drilled wells in the territory of Zlatoust (7th residential section) gave an abundant water inflow. Its rate was 19 L/ s (or about 70 m3/ h) at the depth of 82 meters!!!

The 2nd well near Pumping and Filtration Plant “Tesminskaya” was 95 meters deep and its rate was about 10 L/s or 36 m3/h.

The 3rd well in Zlatoust is in the territory of Pumping and Filtration Plant “Gagarinskaya”. Thewellratewas 8,5 L/s  or 30m3/h!

Why did the officials decide to drill wells around Zlatoust?

"In Zlatoust the water supply of residential houses and industrial enterprises was limited because of the dry season. The water level in potable sources of the city was 5 times less: the municipality consumed water three times more than it went back to water storage reservoirs. According to the head of Zlatoust Aleksander Karavaev, the specialists calculated that the potable water was enough for the following 90 days, after that an emergency status would be declared.

Since 2003 the water level in potable sources of Zlatoust had been on the downward trend despite the normal floods. In 2010 the situation worsened. In Zlatoust, which is considered to be one of the wettest places of the region, there was not a rain drop.

The authorities began to prepare for the worst variant. The first compulsory measure was to limit water supply in residential houses and at the industrial enterprises.

A part of Zlatoust residents could solve the problems by themselves, but they needed to control heating system with 5-7 m3 of water every hour.  If the deficiency had appeared in winter and a heating system had failed, it would have been frozen totally. The whole city would have been without heating. "- an extract from the article which you can read here.
